The LUX To Do List: November

Posted by Marielle T on

The sun now sets on Edmonton at 4.56 pm (and continues earlier each day)  and the city lights hang silhouetted in the late autumn darkness. With this time of year it becomes even easier to crawl into the tub after a long day fighting with the crisp winter winds.

So this month we challenge you to find balance. Take care of yourself and treat yourself to a much deserved night in but also commit to hitting the town for a couple choice events that are worth a few less hours of beauty rest. Make time to connect not only with yourself, but with your loved ones before the mayhem of December rolls in.

Give A Little / Get A Lot:
Timeraiser is a brilliant event in which people get to bid on art from local artists with their commitment to volunteer for non-profits. Not only does it encourage people to give back to their community, if you win the auction you get to take home a unique piece of art for your community dedication. Check out the art you can bid on and find out more here

Pay Your Respects: November 11th marks a pivotal day in history and one we shall never forget by acknowledging those who sacrificed their lives for ours. Wear your poppy and attend one of the many services taking place throughout the city. Find out the location and times of all Edmonton Remembrance ceremonies here

Meet The People:
On Friday Nov. 13th, YEG People is launching their website in a converted City Centre parkade. Sip cocktails and enjoy Jacek chocolates as you take in the toast of Edmonton. Find out more here.

Style Showcase: ParkShow was a huge hit last year and promises to wow us again with a stunning list of designers set to show. To make sure you don't miss out on this early December event, buy your tickets now. Find out more here.

Look Forward:
Even if planning ahead is tricky to do, December tends to sneak up on us every year. Get ahead of the busiest month of the year by selecting the holiday parties you want to attend, buying tickets to the shows you want to see (Citadel's 'A Christmas Carol', Alberta Ballet's 'The Nutcracker Ballet', or Stuart McLean and the Vinyl Cafe) and organizing your master to do list while there's still plenty of time. Trust us, you'll thank us come mid-December.

Turn up the Lights: The third annual All is Bright festival is back on the High Street Saturday Nov 21st. The day will be filled with sleigh-rides, games, craft and marshmallows for the kids, while the night features live music and warm libations for you. See the full schedule of events here.

Date Night on the DL: Pop-up events aren't exactly new to Edmonton, but we find ourselves drooling over the Staff Meals at Three Boars every Monday night (follow their Instagram for the surprise menu on Monday evenings) and swooning at the concept of the Hip-Hop Brunch at the Common. Be sure to check out this limited eateries, because these events only happen once in a blue moon.

P 'ART' Y: Check out one of the two late night art parties happening this month in Edmonton. Latitude 53 will be hosting 'The Fine Art of Schmoozy' on Nov 21, and Your AGA will be hosting a Refinery on 28. Who says art has to be stuffy?! Find out more about Latitude here, and the AGA here
