For many of us, the transition into autumn is a fresh start to the year. The new school year begins, the booties come out from the back of the closet, and all the fresh produce from our well-tended gardens is brought in and transformed into delicious meals. Our routines are all switched up, so it's the perfect time to make the small changes to our beauty routines as well.
At the top of our minds this year is moving towards using high-quality, natural products in our skin care and cosmetics. Unlike products of the past, brands today can create natural formulas that offer the same, often even better, results than their synthetic-laden alternatives. Through an exciting collaboration we paired up with our neighbour Pura Botanicals to present a fall skin care and makeup look, using nothing but natural and organic products.
Inspired by the warm hues slowly taking over our river valley, Cassidy created a subtle look defined by a rich red lip. We were so lucky to have the talented Justine Ma as our model for the day, a beautiful canvas on which to play with some all-natural goodness.
She began by creating a subtle smoky eye with Ilia shadow sticks. These offered creamy and blendable coverage without being too bold or bright. She then emphasized the eyes with Ilia's eye-liner pencil in Sweet Jane (a soft brown hue), followed by RMS Beauty mascara on the lashes.
"I always start with the eye makeup because this way, if you get any pigment fall out or mascara smudges, you can easily wipe it away without removing the makeup on your cheeks."
Glowing skin was the order of the day. Knowing that the lip look would be bold, the skin was to be simple and beautiful. Cassidy prepped Justine's skin by using RMS Un-coverup in shade 11 for light concealing and blended out sheer coverage, followed by a dusting of the Unpowder to set it. Then it was time to add luminosity.
"I wanted to focus on the versatility and ease of the products, so using items that could be quick and flawless. Justine mentioned she doesn't often wear much makeup, so products like the Master Mixer and Ilia multi-stick can be used as a highlighter on the cheeks and brow bones, or as an eye shadow, or even lip tint in a pinch."
She then finished up the look with the easy-to-use (and love) Amaterasu liquid brow pen to give a subtle fullness to her brows. Justine immediately fell in love with the ease and natural finish of the pen strokes. #browsonfleek
And last but not least, the star of the show: a moody, ruby red lip. Justine chose Ilia lip conditioner in Pink Moon.
"Justine had such beautiful lips, I definitely wanted to focus on them. The great thing about a bold lip is that it gives the whole look a boost, even if you don't want to wear lots of makeup. It's the instant done-up trick."
This look was enhanced by the fact that Justine had glowing, beautiful skin from using rich and beautiful skin care from Pura. Outlining the routine and products she used, we turn to founder Lane Edwards for her expertise.
