Summer is continuing to whiz by at a pace that never seems slow enough. We hope you're taking the time to stop and enjoy the long days, and embracing the beautiful city all around us. August in Edmonton is glorious with the markets bursting with fresh produce, the days beautifully warm and the city abuzz with the last festivals of summer. We hope you make the most of the beautiful month whether you challenge yourself to do something new or simply rekindle a long lost summer tradition!
Just remember to share your late summer adventures with us with #SummerLUXin'
Field To Fork: Take a look into one of Alberta’s biggest industries and spend the day exploring Farm Culture during Alberta Farm Days. Finish your day off with one of the many farm-inspired menus throughout the province (including some that actually take place on working farms). Personally, we're drooling over the RGE RD dinner, but you'll find the full list of participating farms here.
Art From Above: An Indie Secret for those in the know, for the past few summers High Level street car concerts have featured comedy, music and many more artists to showcase their talent 156 ft above the North Saskatchewan river. Sign-up for their email list to check out some great shows before the summer is gone! Find out more here.
The Obvious: Last months To-Do List featured quintessential Edmonton summer events that no summer is complete without, so for August we thought we’d highlight another two. Visit the Fringe Festival to take in a play, some fire eating, and enjoy a green onion cake. And speaking of green onion cakes, no summer would be complete without spending an evening on the Gallager hill for Edmonton FolkFest (just make sure not to forget the sunscreen).
Almost Famous: Eva Foote (who you might remember from our Halloween Coven inspired style guide) is releasing her album 'Sparrow & Stone' at the Yellowhead brewery on August 13. Her soft and sweet folk music just finished stealing hearts at the Canmore Folkfest and her concert promises to make the perfect laid back night out. Find out more here.
Day Tripper: Breaking up your summer with a little road trip is a great way to shake up your week without breaking the bank. While Jasper and Banff are always a beautiful options we're opting to skip the long drive in favour of Elk Island Park for your next summer picnic or summer star-gazing.
DIY: U-Pick Season is upon us so pack up your friends or family to spend the day picking berries at one of the amazing farms throughout Alberta. Trust us, you'll thank us come mid-winter when you have a freezer still stocked with raspberries and saskatoon berries. Find a full listing of Alberta U-Pick Farms here.
