The LUX To Do List: December

Posted by Marielle T on

Is it too cliche if we say we can’t believe that it is December already? We woke up yesterday and had to do a bit of a double-take. Though this year has flown by, we have the most cherished month ahead of us. We’ve assembled some of our favourite must-do’s for this month for you to use and plan ahead (step 1!) and squeeze every last joyful drop of these wintry days.

Get him in the shopping spirit: Ladies, write this in your man’s calendar, because he won’t want to miss. On Thursday, December 18th, the stores of the High Street are transforming into a safe shopping haven for men complete with pizza, wings and beer! He might even say he enjoyed getting his holiday shopping done this year.

Be merry and bright: Take in beautiful winter scenery, lights and magic at the Devonian Gardens Luminaria. Wander through the candlelit pathways of the Japanese garden, sip hot cider and enjoy festive carols. Perfect for a family outing or romantic date for two. This weekend December 6 & 7.

Waltz like the sugar plum fairy: Take in a timeless holiday classic at the Alberta Ballet. The Nutcracker runs for one weekend (Dec 12-14) and bring the kids to play, craft and dress up in costumes prior to each performance.

Prepare for battle: Edmonton’s biggest snowball fight is coming to town…we just don’t know when. Sign up for text notifications or follow #yegsnowfight on Twitter to be the first to know when conditions are just perfect…to jump in and throw some snowballs.

Smooth as ice: Tie on the ol’ skates and take the family to one of the city’s beautiful outdoor rinks. Skate at the legislature and take in the holiday lights after the sun goes down. Holiday perfection.

Know your maker (pt. 2): There are a tonne of amazing places to connect with local artist and makers to find something truly special to give this holiday season. Check out the Culture Collective Arts Market, Royal Bison, Butterdome Craft Sale, 124th St. Holiday Bazaar, Pop Pop Design Shop and On the Spot Pop Up

Play in the dark: The days are dwindling down, and soon the shortest day of the year will be among us. Document our the day of darkness with the hashtag #yeglongnight on December 21st.

Paper faces on parade: Don your most extravagant duds and bring your most mysterious masks for a masquerade ball on New Year’s Eve! Bring the whole family to the Muttart Conservatory for music, crafts, and an hourly countdown with treats until midnight.

Share your moments: Keep sharing your photos with us with the #ThisismyLUXmas hashtag until Dec 27th. Each photo shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram raises money for Suit Yourself Edmonton and we draw weekly prizes too!
