This is our inaugural installment of our new blogging series: Meet the Ladies of LUX!
Each month we will be featuring one of our lovely ladies that make LUX so unique and fun. Our first video interview is with the bright and hilarious Marielle.
Hi! I’m Marielle and I have been a part of LUX for a little over a year now. I also improvise at Rapid Fire Theatre, and have started doing stand up comedy.
Wow. That sounds crazy fun. When you are at LUX, what is your favourite thing about being a part of this industry?
I really like the beauty industry because you get to play pretend and as adults we stop exploring these different sides of ourselves. Make-up is something you can change so easily. One day you can wear something low-maintenance, then another you can go full out red-carpet and the next day you get to start fresh again. I am really attracted to the ability to change up who you are, but have relatively low commitment to those changes.
That’s such a great concept. I love it. Now, when you aren’t at LUX, where do you love to shop in YEG?
I still bitterly mourn the loss of Nokomis on Whyte ave, it’s easily my favourite store of all time because I love Canadian made goods and shopping locally. That being said the store I probably spend the most money at would be Bamboo Ballroom. I love it because they have a great collection of vintage, local designers and they are usually pretty great at helping me find stuff that looks fabulous.
When you need to get pumped up in the morning, what’s your musical jam?
It changes all the time but right now I am addicted to the new Head and the Heart album, and sometimes when I wake up I’ll listen to it and do yoga…with my cat.
It seems winter never ends here, is there anything about it that you enjoy?
I like that I feel so strong and capable in the winter because I can brave it. But that being said, I love plaid shirts, hot chocolate, Hudson’s Bay blankets and snow shoeing, so the season really lends itself pretty well for me haha.
Always a question to ask, if you could only bring one item to a deserted island, what would it be?
My cat. Can my answer be my cat? Also can no one tell my boyfriend that my answer is the cat?
Since we are surrounded by a store full of beautiful things, tell us your faves!
My favourite product is Linacare lotion for normal to dry skin, I have really sensitive skin, so I can use barely anything. For me it is really important to have clear looking skin, and it can make more of a difference than actually putting on make-up. It’s kind of a time-saving trick because if I take good care of my skin I can skip foundation most days. I love it.
Anything else you’d like to say to all our LUX readers?
I think for me, makeup used to be something I found really daunting, and something you had to sink all this time and effort into. So I love being here as a part of LUX to teach people really simple things to look pulled together and like they spent hours getting ready when it takes them less than 5 minutes.
I want to make it clear to the women shopping at LUX that we’re not just a place for the people who have high maintenance routines. I love LUX because I can find simple products that do multiple things and make it easier for me to get ready for my day. I can spend less time and still look fabulous and feeling comfortable.
