As we pack away the decorations and sweep up glitter from New Years’ Eve we look ahead to 2015 with a renewed energy. January is truly a blank slate waiting to be filled with amazing events and memories, but right now with the recent cold-snap, it’s a little hard not to just stay in bed eating leftover chocolate until spring. Thankfully, as a self-proclaimed winter city Edmonton has an enticing line-up of events to coax you from your post-Holiday hibernation.
DIY Gourmet: Regardless of what your New Years resolution was, Get Cooking Edmonton has a class for you. Channel global inspiration with cooking classes featuring different places from around world, and impress your friends (and their tastebuds) with your newfound culinary talent. Oh and did we mention there would be wine?

Adults Only Children Theatre: The perfect night out for any adult whose inner child is a bit of a rebel. This night of theatre is a collection of monologues, scenes from various Edmonton play-writes and even a burlesque act. Complete with drinks, this fundraiser is far from a regular night of theatre.

Light Up Your Life: IllumiNITE, is a three day festival, running from sundown January 29- Feb. 1, using light installations from local artists to bring light into the darkness of downtown. Wander down the ‘Alley of Light’ with a hot chocolate from Credo (open until 6pm) and it will be impossible not to feel your day brightened.

Move Your Feet: The Swing ‘n’ Skate Sundays at City Hall blends together live big-band music, free swing dancing classes inside and skating outside for a magical way to pass a wintery afternoon. Complete with free-skate rentals, there’s simply no excuse not to go brush up on your footwork (both on and off the ice). This event runs from 1-4 pm on January 11, 18, & 25.
Put It On Ice: The 12th Annual Ice on Whyte Festival promises heavyweight international talent, bringing life to a block of ice with nothing more than a chisel and a chainsaw. This amazing family-friendly event is the perfect way to embrace winter!

Buy a Little Love: The Beatles claimed that you can’t buy love, but Rapid Fire Theatre begs to differ. On January 17, they will be hosting their annual date auction to raise funds for Improvaganza. Mixing hilarious improv with a fast paced auction gives the audience a chance to find a little romance with “Dates” ranging from a $500 Blu’s shopping spree, to a chance to tour BioWare with Mark Meer himself.
