Winter Skin SOS

Posted by Marielle T on

Is it spring? Is it winter? The weather in Edmonton can’t seem to make up its mind. We get beautiful sunny days, only to be followed by snow and plunging temperatures. Unfortunately the only thing we can count on with the weather is the effect it is having on our skin. Dry, irritated, breaking out, oily? You’re not alone and the good news is: we’re here to help.

This week we had the privilege of brushing up our Tata Harper knowledge with the stunning Dashelle. She stressed the importance of active ingredients like natural hyaluronic acid, which is found in their newest Moisture Mask. Ideal for dry skin, this mask can be applied and even left on overnight to lock in moisture.

Searching for more moisture? Owner Jenn raves about Caudalie Detox Oil and S.O.S. Thrist Quenching Serum as her key to plump, hydrated, glowing skin.

We also discussed the merits of the newest skincare trend, double cleansing. For those who don’t know, double cleansing consists of first washing your face with an oil based cleanser to remove all make-up and grit from the day before moving onto your regular cleanser / clarisonic routine. We’re loving REN Rosa Centifolia Balm Cleanser, followed up with Glacial Face Wash or Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser (especially for oily / combination skin). As Danielle raves, this double cleansing routine “makes her skin as feel as soft as a babies bottom!”

One of the most frustrating winter skin concerns are outbreaks of dreaded pimples.  Once they pop-up, there are a few tricks to vanish them as quickly as possible. We recommend Indie Lee Blemish Lotion and Blemish Stick to reduce redness and dry them out. Then cover them up while they heal. LUX loves Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer for  full coverage in a matte finish.

Lastly, at the risk of sounding like your mother, one of the best skin cures is to drink more water! Our climate matches the humidity index of the dessert, so even though in the winter you may not feel parched, drinking water is a skin-care must year round. Most of our LUX ladies have the beautiful glass BKR water bottles that can hold both boiling and ice water. Snag your favourite colour at our neighbour Red Ribbon.
