Marathon Beauty

Posted by Calissa R on

There’s something about running that I find particularly beautiful; the wind races through your hair as your heartbeat quickens and you feel the light and energy with every single step. What a magical feeling.  That feeling is amplified when you’re surrounded by 10,016 others who know the exact feeling I’m speaking of, and who are ready to run 21.1 km together.

Earlier this month, I went to Vancouver and completed my first half marathon, Lululemon’s SeaWheeze. The road to get there was filled with injuries and doubt, but I knew that beautiful, magical feeling would make the challenge worth it in the end, and it was.

I felt a unique sense of beauty while watching the ocean rush against the seawall as I was running, and more importantly I felt confident; confident in my pace, and confident in my own appearance.  I wasn’t wearing much makeup, but I knew in that moment I was beautiful.

I want to share with you what LUX goodies I brought with me; some were (seriously) essential, and others were just to make me happy—hello coral lipstick!

COOLA Mineral Sport SPF 35 Lotion

It was a balmy 15 degrees with not a single ray of sunshine on the day of SeaWheeze, but I wasn’t taking any chances. This lightly citrus scented sunscreen protects from UVA and UVB rays, and is sweat and water resistant, which I obviously needed.

Skyn Iceland Arctic Face Mist

A 5:30 a.m. wakeup call was a bit early for me, so I simplified my skin care routine. A quick spritz of Skyn Iceland’s Artic Face Mist followed by my moisturizer left me feeling awake and my skin soothed and ready to go.

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray and Prêt-à-Powder

My go-to no-fuss hairstyle is a French braid. Bumble’s thickening spray and Prêt-à-Powder give the perfect amount of grit and hold so your braid stays in place even after you cross the finish line.

Jack Black Body Rehab and Muscle Soak

When I mentioned the seriously essential item earlier, I was talking about Jack Black’s Body Rehab. Using this eucalyptus-and-rosemary-infused scrub and muscle soak in the bath helped soothe my muscles and kept me walking the next day.

Lipstick Queen Jungle Queen

This might seem extraneous, but I’m a beauty junkie at heart. I wore my favourite lipstick to brighten up my face, and keep my lips moisturized. The fact that it matched my running shoes was an added perk.

The SeaWheeze medal is pretty spectacular, but as many LUXers know, crushing a goal is the best reward  a girl can ask for.
